Mobile road safety camera site selection investigation report

June 24 2013

The Office of the Road Safety Commissioner received a complaint from a member of the public about a mobile speed camera deployed at the bottom of a hill on Warrigal Road in Canterbury, alleging the siting was contrary to Mobile Road Safety Camera Policy and Operations Manual. In light of this, the Commissioner invited members of the public to identify other possible incorrect sitings of mobile speed cameras in Victoria.

One hundred and sixteen people responded to this call for more information. An investigation found that each mobile camera was used in accordance with the Manual, however the investigation was deemed worthwhile as it prompted the review of some criteria in the Manual relating to the safety of mobile camera operators while carrying out their duties.
