Fixed road safety cameras in 40km/h speed limit zones

The Office of the Road Safety Camera Commissioner carried out an extensive investigation into four fixed road safety cameras operating in 40km/h speed limit zones at the intersections of:

  • Warrigal Road and Batesford Road, Chadstone
  • Fitzroy Street and Lakeside Drive, St Kilda
  • Exhibition Street and Victoria Street, Melbourne, and
  • Flinders Street and William Street, Melbourne.

This investigation follows many motorists expressing their concerns in addition to correspondence and telephone calls. These cameras have also attracted significant media attention. The report found no technical problems with these cameras and adequate signage to alert drivers to the speed limits.
